  • Snow Days

Do you remember snow days as a kid?  I do - boy were they fun.  But now Chicago very rarely has snow days as the climate has definitely changed - less snow, warmer temps - so I am glad I a was a kid in Chicago in the 70s and 80's.  Anyway - today we have a good amount of snow on the ground in Minneapolis today with more to come.  So I am working at home this morning avoiding the 4-6 inches we have on the ground.  My normal commute is about 18 minutes, and today it could take 90 if I left right now.  So, we will take it easy and go in a bit later.

The picture you are being treated to is of both my nieces.  My niece Taylor who is 6.5 years old and my new niece Alison who is .01 years old.  What a fun picture!  Hope you have a great day wherever you are.  JVD

  • Congrats on the new niece. Both of them are very cute. I have 2 nieces of my own, and it is a blast to get to see them grow up!

  • Thanks Kyle - JVD

  • wonderful picture man....awesome.

  • How often do kids get snow days there?

  • Hey JVD,

I just got back from Southern MN.  I was doing retreats in a small town down there.  We had a 2- hour delay one morning, but no snow day.  The students who did come to school really didn't want to be there.  They wanted a snow day.

We leave Sat. When are you guys heading out?

  • Miss you bro.

  • I don't remember any snow days until I was 30. I grew up in South Texas so snow only showed up on snowcones. When we moved to Denver, I was enamored with the idea there were days I couldn't go anywhere because there was too much snow.

We played like little kids in the snow those days. I bet we looked like idiots...or people from somewhere where there is no snow.

Now when we see those people we call them tourists...

  • Snow Days are not that common here, more common is 'delayed 2 hours,' people in Minnesota (I am still a foreigner here) pride themselves on going on despite the snow.  We get a few full days off here and there.  Bethel, where I work, almost never closes.  Except one time in college when it was like -25 actual temp.  Yikes!  JVD
